Gonjasufi - A Sufi & A Killer. Listen to the whole album!

So here it is, Gonjasufi's album on Warp!! Clash Music offers a full preview of the album (below) and I must say I dig it a lot. Although the producers Mainframe, Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus inject their own style, it all comes together very nicely. Some raw shit! Just how we like it :P

Gonjasufi x Gaslamp Killer > Deadly Combination!

Gonjasufi is the LA-based, shaman looking, vocalist who collaborated plenty of times with people like Flying Lotus and the Gaslamp Killer. The outcome were tracks that were simply out of this world. Warp Records signed Gonjasufi some time ago and now a collaboration album with Gaslamp Killer has a firm release date: 9th March 2010!

"I just hope this record reaches people at the point when they're one foot out the window and looking down and that song comes on through the speakers and they pull their foot back through the windows and say "wait a minute - let me re-evaluate the situation..".  If anything I would pray that people find the ability to find themselves in the music." - Gonjasufi

Check Sufi's new website for more info and stream tunes.

And pre-order from warp.net

Includes a few older tracks, the recently released singles, like Ancestors - and new material. All produced by GLK, Flying Lotus and Mainframe. Good to see the track on there, that started it all for me - still ranks high in my all time favourites...

Another stand out track, that was released recently:

Gaslamp Killer - Low End Theory Japan Tour Mix. Akuma no Chi Ga Odoru.

Soooooo, even though I'm one of the biggest Gaslamp Killer groupies around, I am a bit confused about this one...

There were talks about a new GLK mixtape when the last Low End Theory podcast came out, but no definitive release date. Today I found this mix on another blog and it's labeled "Akuma no Chi Ga Odoru / Low End Theory - Japan Tour Mix". So my question remains:

Is this the new mix I was waiting for?
Anybody know?

Was released back in November according to some japanese websites...
Hmmmm....

Loving the cover and the mix is mind blowing as always.

DOWNLOAD

EDIT: So apparently this was the actual mix. No idea why this was available fro download before it landed in the online shops where I buy my music, but I ordered the original now and if you have donwloaded this one, then consider it as well...

Gaslamp Killer & Kutmah on Low End Theory Podcast 11.

I haven't even listened to it yet (still downloading in iTunes... COME ON!!!). But this line up I'd post any day. GLK has been my favourite crate digger for the past years and I got two mindblowing mixtapes from Kutmah - so how in the hell could I be wrong about saying: This is gonna be one of the biggest and bestest Low End Theory Podcast episodes to date.

Get it here.

Just saw this tweet... LOL!!

"RT @LOWENDTHEORY808: our server has been overloaded. 61 requests/second. Please chill on grabbing the new podcast right now."

The 5 essential albums of 2009.

Everybody is doing their "Best of the year" posts these days, so I thought I'll get in on the action. A couple of these aren't REALLY 2009, because parts leaked in 2008 already or were simply way ahead of their time. So basically... The following five albums are the ones that constantly ran in my iPod this year. Let's get into it:

El Michels Affair - Enter The 37th Chamber

Full instrumental reinterpretations of classic tracks by the Wu-Tang Clan. RZA's raw soundscapes translate perfectly to the vibe of El Michels Affair's "cinematic soul," and beats from more than a dozen Wu anthems get proper do-overs courtesy of one of the hottest bands in the biz...

Gaslamp Killer - I spit on your grave

When Giles Peterson played some snippets of this tape on his radio show, it was crystal clear to me, that this dude is way ahead of his time. Seriously dope new mix spanning deep psych and hip-hop breaks, with some Roots Manuva, Mulatu, Dabrye and more chucked in for good measure. One of the finest mixes you'll ever hear.

Mayer Hawthorne - A Strange Arrangement

I've written numerous time about this white boy before and so have millions of other blogs. This guy has soul and is not afraid to show it. This album is an instant classic.

Mos Def - The Ecstatic

After some musical (and cinematic) excursions, Mos Def came back strong with Madlib, Dilla, Chad Hugo, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Oh No supplying the beats. I like most of the stuff Mos releases, but this one hits the nail on the head.

Hudson Mohawke - Butter

This album is truely "butter". Rarely there's an album which gets this much antipication from the press and the "underground". Straight out of Glasgow, Hudmo pulled it off with a bang. Easily moved into my All Time Favourites from day one of the release. His essential mix a few weeks ago on BBC Radio 1 was also mind blowing. Big future ahead of you, kid!
